8 Simple Steps to Healthier Skin

by

It doesn’t matter if you’re seventeen or seventy, almost everybody wants healthier looking skin. The skin care industry is big business, with new products emerging every month. Many times though, the answer to healthier looking skin is not in the newest product, but in simple, basic skin care steps. Try these eight simple steps to improve even the most problematic skin.

  1. Thorough Cleansing

One of the biggest enemies of healthy skin is the junk that assaults it on a daily basis. Thorough cleansing to deep clean all the junk from your pores will keep your skin much more radiant. Use a gentle, natural cleanser, as harsh cleansers can irritate your skin. And, you don’t necessarily need a bunch of different products. If something works well to keep your face clear, there’s no reason you can’t also use it on your body.

  2. Weekly Exfoliation

Dead skin cells can build upon your skin’s surface, deadening its healthy glow. Use a natural exfoliating scrub on your face and body about once a week to get your glow back. A couple of good options are baking soda or finely ground coffee. Mix about a teaspoon to a tablespoon with your usual cleanser, and scrub gently.

  3. Moisturizing

Your skin thrives on moisture. Lots of elements in our environment today can rob your skin of its precious moisture, such as hard water or artificial heating, so you need to replenish this lost moisture every day. The best option for most people is a hypoallergenic, unscented moisturizer. Look for one that says it won’t clog pores so that you can use it on both your face and your body.

  4. Natural Cosmetics

Switching out your chemical filled cosmetics for more natural ones can greatly calm sensitive skin. Many people have allergic reactions to the cosmetics they use but don’t even realize it. If you have frequent breakouts, eczema, or rashes, your cosmetics might be the culprit.

  5. Sun Protection

If you suffer from painful sunburns that make your skin red and peel, it’s essential to protect your skin from the sun when you venture outside. Wear a hat, cover your skin in layers, and use a high SPF sunscreen.

  6. Healing Foods

Certain foods can have a healing effect on your skin, working to clear it from the inside out. Add lots of colorful fruits and veggies to your diet, along with foods that are high in essential fatty acids, such as fish, nuts, and seeds.

  7. Work Up a Sweat

Working up a sweat detoxifies your skin, purging impurities from deep below the surface. Get sweaty with daily aerobic exercise, a steamy sauna, or a hot bath.

  8. Ditch Damaging Addictions

You likely know that addictions to things like alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs are bad for your whole body, but their damage shows up on your skin too. These bad habits can lead to premature wrinkles, blotches, and spots. Quit now, before these habits ruin your beautiful skin.

Getting healthier skin doesn’t have to mean constantly keeping up with the latest skin care products. These simple skin care steps will help you attain healthier skin, without the complication.
