Losing Weight with a Weight Loss DietPosted: September 12, 2011 in Obesity Medicine by Craig Primack MD FACP
The most important part of planning a successful weight loss strategy is to make sure you are following a healthy plan or medical diet and avoid weight loss fads, scams and “too good to be true” schemes. Here are some tips for losing weight the right way, to ensure you will have success in reaching your goals.
The first step is to see how much you weigh to assess your realistic weight loss goals. Losing weight is based on calorie consumption versus calories burned, so it is important to establish how much less you will need to eat or how much more you will need to exercise to reach your goal.
A good way to plan your diet is to aim to eat most of your calories in the morning, so you will have the rest of the day to burn them off. Lunch should be the 2nd largest meal, with dinner being your smallest calorie intake. It is also smart to drink water throughout the day to keep you feeling full so that you will eat less.
You should either eat light meals every 2 hours or heavier meals every 4 hours to be in tune to your body’s need for food. What you eat is just as important as how often you eat. Try to eat a balanced diet with at least 3 servings of fruit per day. Fruit includes healthy fiber and other nutrients you need for proper digestive health. Filling up on these healthy snacks can really help curb your appetite and prevent you from eating the wrong things when hunger hits you.
